Additionally, you will need some type of sway control for a travel trailer, such as the friction sway control bar pictured at right. This sway control bar prevents the trailer tongue from moving violently from side to side on the freeway or highway. It also helps to lesson the steering inputs required to counteract a strong side wind gust on the highway.

A typical 5th wheel hitch setup will cost between $300-$500 dollars, and a typical travel trailer weight distributing hitch system will also cost between $300-$500 dollars.
Due to a travel trailer's "tongue" weight pressing down on the tow vehicle behind its rear axle, you will need a special hitch setup to counteract the travel trailers forces on the tow vehicle. This special hitch setup is called a Weight Distributing Hitch.

A weight distrubuting hitch counteracts the heavy "tongue" weight of a travel trailer by using spring bars to distribute the "tongue" weight of a travel trailer from just the rear axle of the tow vehicle,  to both the front and rear axles the tow vehicle. This reduces sway and unstableness of the travel trailer. Another benefit of a weight distributing hitch is that it prevents the tow vehicle from "sagging" down in the rear when the trailer is hitched up.
Sure, there are various different makes and models of 5th wheel hitches, but the more expensive models basically incorperate convenience features, such as the ability to unhitch on extremely unlevel ground. One fifth wheel hitch is as good as the other when it comes time to drive down the road. With a 5th wheel type trailer, one will never have to worry about trailer sway or unstableness on the road, due to the weight of the 5th wheel pressing down on top of the vehicles rear axle, instead of the wight pressing down well behind the rear axle, as is the case with a travel trailer.
If you are planning to tow your RV, you will need to factor in the price of a proper hitch system. An RV, with its high wind resistance and heavy weight needs special hitches to make sure that your tow vehicle and trailer remain stable on the road.

If you have chosen a 5th wheel, your hitch needs are relatively easy. The only item you will need to purchase and install is a 5th wheel hitch
